WELCOME BACK
Dear Parent(s), Guardian(s), and Student:
We would like to welcome you back for the 2019-2020 school year of “Leave a Legacy Worth Sharing!” We are looking forward to a very exciting year here at Vernon Middle School of working very hard to succeed and achieve the goals that have been set for every one of us.
We want our students to rise to the top level of excellence possible. We enjoy having a blast teaching our students and seeing the excited faces of students. We try to find and create the most enjoyable, learning atmosphere to promote HIGHER ORDER THINKING! LOOK OUT STUDENTS! YOU HAVE ENTERED THE VMS TWILIGHT LEARNING ZONE.
We are sending a very important document entitled “STUDENT EXPECTATIONS” that will mutually benefit us all. The contract consists of classroom rules that will be enforced. All rules that are covered in the student handbook will also be enforced to the fullest degree. Please read these rules carefully, and we ask that parents/guardians and students sign the contract acknowledging that you have read and understood the rules. All school forms need to be signed and returned no later than Friday, August 23rd. We want to impress upon you how important these rules are, and that they will help eliminate any lack of communication in the future.
Students will learn a new concept of taking classroom notes this year. Students will be REQUIRED to keep these notes in their binder for the whole year. (PLEASE DO NOT THROW THEM AWAY.) Notes will be used as a study guide materials for possible End of 9 Weeks Exams, Semester Exams, FSA Testing, End of Course Exam (EOC’s), and Final Exams.
Students will have access to online materials for ALL of their classes. Usernames and Passwords will be given to them. (This will be a work in progress for August and September, please be patient.) If your child is absent from school, teachers will be able to give assignments virtually if you have internet access from home.
Our sixth grade team has our own website. It will allow you access to each of your child’s core class teachers. The website is http://vms6thgrade.weebly.com . With this being a new website at this time, we are still under construction. You will have access to homework assignments, classroom information, due dates of assignments, emailing the teacher, and much more. In addition, we have the Parent Portal on Focus that has valuable information. You can get the information about accessing the Parent Portal from the VMS Office. Please do not hesitate to call or contact us via e-mail whenever necessary.
Good communication is the most important part of our lives, and it is free! We are honored that we are your child's teachers, and we pledge to you that we will do our best to teach all of our students to the best of our abilities. We are looking forward to having an adventurous school year and to “Achieve the Yellow Jacket Power”!
Sincerely,
6th Grade Teachers
